The 4th Annual Great Lakes Gathering –
"Wandering in Wonderland" is fast approaching!
Here are a few items to put on your checklist when preparing for the event:
Letterboxing stuff:
- Signature stamp(s).
- Logbook (with enough pages left to fit a lot of gathering stamps). You should be aware that
some stamps are fairly large, so if you have a small book you might want to bring some
additional larger paper. The largest stamp is 4” x 6”.
- All of your other favorite accessories (compass, ink pads, markers, etc).
- Clues to the two boxes already in the park if you also want to look for them while you’re there.
(Martini Man reminds you that these are his very FIRST carving efforts, so please compare to
Mad Hatter, his most recent carving!)
- Quilt square, fleece or yarn if you want to stamp the Project Linus box.
- Carving materials and tools if you plan to participate in the carving workshop. A small amount
of supplies will be available for purchase.
- Bug spray! The mosquitoes are out early this year.
Park stuff:
- Printed map from .pdf file in case they run out at the park.
- Event certificate if you don't have an annual WI park sticker. Annual stickers are $25 for state
residents, $35 for out of state. If you don’t want to purchase an annual sticker you can enter the
park for only $3 if you bring along the event certificate. Here is the certificate:
If you forget to bring it, the fee to enter the park will be $7 per vehicle if you are a resident,
$10 if you are a non-resident, so DON’T forget the certificate if you don’t have an annual sticker.
[Note that the certificate says a HIKING event.]
Meal stuff:
- Potluck item.
- Your own beverages. (A bubbler [drinking fountain] is located in the lodge if you want to refill
water bottles.)
- Lawn chairs for comfort and additional seating. Due to the size of the expected group, we will
need some extra chairs!
Miscellaneous stuff (Exit 287):
- The nearest grocery store to the park is 2 miles away, at exit 287 off of I-94. The Sentry Food
Store is north of the freeway.
- There is also a Wal-Mart and Target store at exit 287, south of the freeway.
- There are numerous hotels and restaurants at exit 287.
- There is a “Pre-event” get-together being planned for Friday evening. We are tentatively
planning to meet at the Delafield Brewhaus from 8 pm to 11 pm or midnight?
- A possible “Post-event” get-together might be planned for Marty’s Pizza from 8:30 pm to
